The New PeteBlog
In an ongoing effort to better stay in touch with people, I have decided to start blogging again. I know I've tried blogging before and failed at keeping it up, but there are some very good reasons why this time should be different.
1. I enjoy this interface.
My other blogs had been with MySpace (an absolute waste of time and entirely bloated, unweildy, and trendy) and privately run websites, which didn't offer me the flexibilty I was looking for. Blogger should remedy much of this because I have deactivated most of the social aspects and can take advantage of the support offered by a large company such as Google.
2. I no longer play WoW.
While I very much enjoyed the game that is World of Warcraft, I have now been WoW clean and sober for 2 months, and I must say I don't think I'll be going back any time soon. Life is chugging right along for me at an exciting pace and I have too many outside interests that demand my time... such as real life friends, work, my art, and various hobbies to bother spending two hours a night farming herbs and mines for virtual gold.
3. I now have things to talk about.
Probably a direct result of number 2, I now have a ton of stuff I'd like to relay to people or discuss without having to write an insane amount of emails. So this will hopefully be a place where anyone interested can come in and check in with me without having to try to extract IM conversations or personal emails from me. I love talking to people but can't stand to write a personal email to someone or have an IM/phone conversation that pretty much amounts to "and then we did this.... and I found this.... and at work I'm doing this...." If you are at all interested in anything that goes on with me personally you can find that stuff here at your leaisure or skip over that and just find out about the cool shit I'm finding on the internet.
4. Sharing cool shit I find on the Internet
While we all have our own reasons for using the internet... I tend to use it to find cool new things people are doing. I dont watch TV... well not for more than 2-3 hours a week... so I get most of my entertainment from the WWW. I'll be sharing tons of links to stuff that I find interesting... and perhaps you will too.
I could go on and on with reasons for starting to blog again... but essentially I'm just looking for a way to share my interests and ideas with others in a format that allows people to pick and choose what they want to know and forget the rest. To be able to talk to people without having to waste their time playing "catch up" and recounting a bunch of half-remembered stories. And perhaps most importantly, be able to talk about things that I wouldn't remember to otherwise.
Finally, I hope anyone who is intended to read this gets something out of it.... whether or not its a better sens of "Pete-ness" or just some amusement at the videos and links I post.
